New Orleans police investigate homicide after man found dead in SUV in Upper Ninth Ward

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating after a person was found dead in an SUV in the Upper Ninth Ward.

According to police, 30-year-old Andrew Mercadel was found with an multiple stab wounds near the 5400 block of North Villere Street.

Police have announced that the death is being reclassified as a homicide after investigating the scene.

In a press release, police said they are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person or persons responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

Police say they are currently searching for Darren Mercadel, the brother of the victim, in connection with the homicide.
