Celebrating New Orleans musicians nominated for Grammy awards

New Orleans natives are setting the bar this year for Grammy nominations thanks to St. Aug and NOCCA alum, Jon Batiste.

Batiste has 11 nominations, which is the most out of any artist this year!

Batiste is nominated for the coveted and prestigious “Album of the Year” for We Are and “Record of the Year” for his song ‘Freedom.’ His other nominations are for Best American Roots Performance, Best American Roots Song, Best R&B Album, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best Music Video, Best Instrumental Album, Best Improvised Jazz Solo, and Best Contemporary Classical Composition.

Batiste’s fellow Purple Knight, PJ Morton, is nominated for two Grammys. This is also the fifth year he received a nomination as an independent artist.

Morton will hold his annual Black Friday show on Nov. 26 at The Fillmore, 8 p.m. Click here for tickets.

Other New Orleans artists nominated for Grammys include: Terence Blanchard, Christian Scott, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Cha Wa, Sean Ardoin, Corey Ledet, Harry Connick, Jr. and Ledisi.

Congratulations to all the nominees!
