24 arrests made in Houston robbery sting linked to death of NOPD officer

The Houston Police Department announced a large number of arrests made in a robbery sting that was linked to the death of a New Orleans Police officer.

NOPD officer Everett Briscoe was shot and killed in August along with his friend, DJ Riculfy.

They were sitting outside having dinner when two suspects approached the outside of the restaurant with guns and demanded the victims’ belongings.

Anthony Jenkins, 21, and Frederick Jackson, 19, will face capital murder and attempted capital murder charges, Houston authorities said. Both men were out on bond in connection to other felony charges at the time of the shooting: Jenkins on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; and Jackson on a charge of aggravated robbery.

On Monday, it was announced 24 other arrests were made in connection with the same luxury jewelry robbery ring, according to Houston Police.

According to KPRC, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner said during a news conference that the robbers would target people driving luxury vehicles and having expensive jewelry in a number of affluent areas throughout Houston, including the Galleria-area and Highland Village. Some of the incidents would end with home invasions where even more property could be taken, police said.
