A shooting in Harahan has left two people injured.
“One of them said two dudes just randomly started shooting at each other and that’s weird because that don’t happen around here,” said Ezell Smith.
Smith said he saw a large police presence near his home on Hickory Avenue.
“Nothing happens around here, so it was obvious that something was going down because police were just walking around here with flashlights, and I’m like, what’s going on over there?” Smith said.
He was shocked to learn that a busy gas station in Harahan turned into a crime scene Sunday morning, when police say two people were shot.
“The police don’t play around here, so I’m shocked they would try that around here,” Smith said.
Harahan police have not released details about what led up to the shooting, but an employee at the gas station says a shootout unfolded between two people Sunday around midnight.
Many neighbors who did not want to speak on camera describe hearing loud gunfire when shots rang out in the middle of the night.
People who live nearby and visit the gas station often say it’s surprising.
“It’s always been a quiet area. We never hear about crime or anything, so to hear about this at the gas station I come to frequently is shocking,” said Joshua Gonzales.
