After missing the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season, the New Orleans Saints are trying to turn things around in a hurry.
For that to happen, they will need to lean on some veterans even more this season.
The two that come to mind are safety Justin Reid and tight end and tight end Juwan Johnson.
Reid is trying to fill the the void left behind, on and off the field, by Tyrann Mathieu.
Once Mathieu retired, the Saints needed another leader and Reid is ready to take over Mathieu’s role.
The eight-year veteran from Dutchtown High School says he plans to lead the same way Mathieu did in his three years with the team.
As for Johnson, he feels like the vibes are the highest they’ve been since the franchise got out to a 5-2 start in the 2021 season, which was derailed after Jameis Winston suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Johnson is happy to be back with the Saints ready to give back in the community and with the team.
He wants to be there for all three quarterbacks taking part in the heated quarterback battle.
Day three was the cleanest the quarterbacks operated the offense so far this training camp.
The Saints will be off Saturday and will return to practice Sunday morning.
