Ponchatoula police have arrested a fourth person in connection with a deadly shooting on Sunday.
According to detectives, they received information that the three suspects that were wanted hiding at a residence on Olan Bankston Road in Kentwood.
The owner of the home, Dorris Carter, was arrested for three counts of accessory after the fact and one count of failure to report the commission of certain felonies.
Detectives also located the car and gun believed to be used in the shooting.
Julius Glass Jr., Ray Delmer Carter, and Kera Wolbers were taken into custody Monday in Kentwood. All three face charges including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and several other offenses.
Police responded to reports of gunfire Sunday at Lakeside Circle, where they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were rushed to a hospital, but one of them — 17-year-old Marvin Wells — later died from his injuries.
The other two victims, a 17-year-old and a 59-year-old man, are still recovering.
Authorities say the shooting occurred during a drive-by involving a black Cadillac, a vehicle that had reportedly been seen frequently in the neighborhood. According to local residents, the car had been the subject of multiple complaints in recent weeks.
“They’ve been complaining about this black Cadillac coming through, just flying and shooting. They thought it was fireworks, but it was really guns,” said the mother of one of the surviving teens. “Every week for the last two months they’ve been calling about that car.”
Police say Wells’ 17-year-old friend — also shot during the incident — managed to flee the scene and run home to get help.
“I was the first to come up here and turn him over,” the teen’s mother said. “He was gone. It’s just so, so sad. It’s heartbreaking.”
The 59-year-old victim, who was sitting on his back porch at the time of the shooting, initially didn’t even realize he had been hit.
“I peeped around and saw one guy running, he said he was shot. Then, I looked down and I was bleeding — I said, Oh, I’m shot myself,” he said.
In a painful twist, the mother of the teen survivor said one of the suspects once had a close friendship with her son.
“The shooter used to stay at my house. They grew up together, played in the same field — baseball, football. It’s crazy how they grew up together,” she said.
As of Monday night, all three suspects remain in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
