The New Orleans Police Department will begin relocating homeless people from the French Quarter next week.
Starting Monday, the NOPD will move people who have been living on sidewalks in the French Quarter and parts of the Marigny to the low-barrier shelter.
This includes anyone who may be camping out and setting up tents, blankets or other such items on the sidewalk, according to the NOPD.
The NOPD will also move the person’s belongings to the shelter.
This operation was presented during the French Quarter Management District board meeting and is being undertaken to address quality of life, nuisance and safety concerns in the area.
The NOPD said this is a program brought in by the Office of Homeless Services that saw success when it was implemented in Dallas.
