A Mississippi man has been arrested in connection with a murder of a Belle Chasse woman early Sunday morning.
Terrance McKinney, 53, of Duck Hill, Mississippi, was arrested for the murder of Ashley Nugent, 38, of Tau Street in Belle Chasse.
Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the home on Tau Street around 5 a.m. on June 29 after reports of a shooting.
When they arrived at the scene, they found Nugent and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Plaquemines Parish deputies, they observed a car involved in the shooting leaving the area.
When deputies attempted to conduct a stop on the car, McKinney refused to stop leading deputies on a pursuit that entered New Orleans and Jefferson Parish.
Deputies were able to end the pursuit and take McKinney into custody with the help of Louisiana State Police.
The pursuit ended on I-10 in Jefferson Parish.
A Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office unit was involved in a crash during the pursuit but no deputies were injured.
McKinney is being charged with second-degree murder, aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce and aggravated flight from an officer.
