The plan to open a Topgolf in the Lower Garden District is now dead after multiple delays.
The River District Neighborhood Investors issued a statement saying they are in the final states of an agreement with a new tenant for where the Topgolf was supposed to be built.
“Regarding the Topgolf site, the Convention Center and RDNI have had to defend frivolous legal cases that have delayed the development as originally planned. The RDNI team is exploring all options to move the development forward, including continuing to work with Topgolf on what their presence in New Orleans will look like. We are in the final stages of an agreement with a new tenant for the originally planned Topgolf site and expect to make an announcement to the public as soon as confidential lease negotiations are completed.
“RDNI has not wavered from its commitment to the River District’s vision as a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood. We are building the first new Class-A office tower to be constructed in New Orleans since 1989, already under construction. We are advancing the first phase of multi-family housing, which will break ground in early 2026. And we continue with work on infrastructure and greens spaces, as well as pursuing retail and entertainment options as part of the development.”
New Orleans City Councilwoman Lesli Harris issued the following statement regarding the project:
“I’ve said from the beginning that the River District must deliver real community benefits, including affordable and workforce housing. I’ve supported RDNI’s vision because the developers have stated they share those goals. I’m glad to see the project continue to move forward with continued emphasis on these fundamental components—even with Topgolf’s exit.
“While legal delays have changed the original timeline, RDNI’s plans show they are still holding to their core commitments. The first new Class-A office building in decades is already under construction. Infrastructure and green space improvements are underway. And most importantly, the first phase of multi-family housing, including affordable units, is set to break ground in early 2026.
“I will continue to hold all partners accountable to ensure this development lives up to its promise for our city.”
