The LSU Tigers take care of the UCLA Bruins 9-5 Tuesday to advance to the bracket final in the College World Series.
This game was resumed Tuesday morning after it was halted late Monday night due to inclement weather.
The Tigers’ bats picked where they left off Monday.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, shortstop Steven Milam delivered a two-out RBI single to centerfield to drive in outfielder Derek Curiel to make it 6-3 LSU.
Outfielder Jake Brown came up next and stroked a single to right field to score designated hitter Ethan Frey to push the lead to 7-3.
The Tigers pushed their lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a bloop single by second baseman Daniel Dickinson.
Freshman pitcher Casan Evans started the game for LSU.
The freshman from Houston, Tex. went 4.1 innings, giving up four hits, two earned runs, hit one batter and struck out five Bruins.
Once Evans came out the game, things got interesting.
The Bruins scored the two runs when lefty relief pitcher Cooper Williams came into the game.
The first was on a fielders choice and then a single to make it an 8-5 game.
Flame thrower Chase Shores came in with the bases loaded and got the final out on one pitch.
The Tigers add another run in the eighth inning.
First baseman Jared Jones crushed a two-out RBI single to center to score Frey to give LSU the 9-5 lead.
After striking out five times in the opener against Arkansas, Jones goes 2-4 and 4 RBI, including a three-run home run.
LSU scored five of its nine runs with two outs.
LSU will face the winner of UCLA-Arkansas in the bracket final Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Tigers will need just one win to advance to the CWS Championship Series.
If LSU loses Wednesday, it will have to play a winner-take-all game Thursday.
