The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA), in partnership with LabMar Ferry Services, LLC, has launched a summer pilot program extending evening ferry service on the Algiers-Canal Street route. The pilot aims to evaluate the need and impact of late-night ferry service for hospitality workers, musicians, and other residents who depend on nighttime transportation.
Under the pilot, ferry departures will run every 15 minutes, with the last ferry leaving Canal Street at 12:15 a.m. and Algiers at midnight. This extends previous service hours, which ended at 8:45 p.m. on weekdays and 10:45 p.m. on weekends. The service runs seven days a week, with a $2 fare per ride.
RTA CEO Lona Edwards Hankins said this extension supports New Orleans’ nighttime workforce and responds to community requests for later ferry service. The summer timeframe was chosen due to lower tourism, allowing for better measurement of local ridership and operational feasibility.
RTA and LabMar Ferry Services will closely monitor ridership, costs and rider feedback to determine whether late-night ferry service should continue after the pilot concludes.

The pilot runs now through September 27.
