The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office has begun construction on a new 30,000-square-foot administration building in LaPlace.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said the facility will sit on 18 acres, stretching from West Airline Highway to the railroad tracks.
The $15.5 million facility is funded through existing revenues in the department. Tregre says the new building will better serve the community because all of the services, like narcotics, investigations, and records, will be under one roof compared to different satellite sites.
Tregre added that the new building will house more deputies than the current facility, which originally served as the parish jail.
Developers said the site is expected to be ready by March 2028, weather permitting.
