A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening of Metairie’s newest ALDI on Thursday morning. The store at 215 Veterans Memorial Blvd. welcomed customers at 9 a.m., and the first 200 shoppers received a gift bag with ALDI products and a gift card, the company said.
Inside, shoppers will find a smaller store layout and products exclusive to ALDI. For those who never been, the shopping routine includes a quarter to unlock a cart, which shoppers get back when they return it. Customers also bag their own groceries after checkout. The store is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
ALDI says nearly 90% of its products are exclusive to its stores. Its selection includes produce, meat, seafood, cheese and wine.
The Metairie opening is part of the company’s planned expansion in the New Orleans metro area. ALDI expects to open a store at 8601 Jefferson Highway in River Ridge on Nov. 9 and another at 4150 Conti St. in New Orleans later this year.
