The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a woman’s body near the Tangipahoa River in the Independence area.
Investigators said at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, a fisherman reported finding an unresponsive white female along the bank of the Tangipahoa River near the Highway 40 bridge.
Firefighters who arrived first at the scene confirmed the woman was deceased.
Authorities believe the woman was from out of state who had been living out of her car, which was found parked along the highway. Official identification and the cause of death are pending with the Coroner’s Office.
“This is an open and active death investigation,” Sheriff Gerald Sticker said. He encouraged anyone with information that could assist detectives to contact the Criminal Investigations Office at 985-902-2088.
