The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has issued a court summons for a Mandeville alternative school employee accused of hitting a student.
According to the sheriff’s office, Kevin Powell, 40, was issued a summons to appear in court on a count of simple battery.
The incident happened in September at an alternative school near Mandeville.
Deputies say Powell is accused of slapping the 13-year-old student on the back of the head.
A faculty member at a local alternative school has been issued a summons for simple battery following an incident involving a 13-year-old student.
WDSU has reached out to the St. Tammany Parish School District for more information on the incident as well as the employment status of the faculty member.
WDSU received the following response:
“Immediately following the incident, the employee was placed on leave while the criminal investigation was conducted. The safety and security of our students is always our top priority. Because this is a personnel matter, we are unable to provide additional details at this time,” Interim Superintendent Steve Alfonso.
