A Jefferson Parish justice of the peace and former parish councilman has been recommended for suspension by the Louisiana Judiciary Commission.
The commission recommended that Mark Spears Jr. be suspended for six months with all but 30 days of the suspension deferred after he was accused of using the status of his judicial office to promote his law practice and sports agent work.
The commission said his posts violated judicial ethics rules.
According to the commission, Spears had been told to remove “judge” from the account name or shut down the account.
He told investigators he tried to change the name but was unsuccessful and later deleted the account.
The commission found that he reactivated the account in December in an effort to keep his followers and verified status.
The Louisiana Supreme Court will have the final say in any disciplinary action for Spears.
