An employee of the Orleans Parish District Attorney and a former candidate for city council claims she was fired over her social media posts.
Holly Friedman, former director of litigation support, tells WDSU she was abruptly fired from DA Williams’ office, without any prior disciplinary actions.
“There is nothing else. I’ve never had a poor employment review. I’ve never had any write-ups,” Friedman said.
The firing comes days after Friedman voiced concerns on Facebook about the city’s property tax hike proposal.
“Exactly how many mills would be rolled forward, and what would the tax increase be for property owners? Residents should know this is under consideration and have the opportunity to weigh in before the City Council votes,” Friedman wrote on Facebook.
Days later, she posted the following: “The administration plans to seek a millage roll forward projected to raise an additional $42 million. We now know that a public hearing and City Council vote are planned for October 29 and that five council votes will be required. However, residents still do not know which millages would be increased, by how much, what the impact would be on individual property-tax bills, or what happens to the City’s budget if the roll forward does not pass. Contact your councilmember. Ask questions, get answers, and make your voice heard before the Council votes. Residents deserve complete information before decisions are made about their tax bills!”
The property tax hike proposal is being floated as one solution to fix the city’s budget crisis. If approved, homeowners with properties valued at $300,000 could have their taxes increase by up to $200 annually.
Friedman had served with the DA’s office since 2023, as the project director for Open Source Intelligence.
WDSU reached out to the DA’s office about the firing at 4:26 PM and at 7:40 PM. We have yet to hear back.
