A long-time Gentilly Terrace homeowner says he has been battling sewer line issues for over three years, resulting in foul odors, a sinking yard, and a water bill that has skyrocketed.
According to Joseph Aguda, his water bill has increased significantly.
“My water bill is now $417.11 where my average water bill runs around $39,” Aguda said.
He explained that the smell from the sidewalk near his home has been a persistent issue, making it unpleasant for people to walk nearby.
“But since it’s all open sewer, the smell, and the stench when the water dries out on the sidewalk has a way to actually have people avoid walking over here on the sidewalk. They would rather walk in the street,” Aguda said.
Aguda said the problem began after a street repair in front of his house, which has caused sewer water to back up into his home.
“And when it backs up, it backs up into my open line leading it to my house, and when it’s strong enough, it leads into my house,” he explained.
“I have to call a plumber to come out with his truck and flush my lines out in my house,” Aguda said.
Despite reporting the issue, Aguda said he has not seen a resolution.
“Two and a half months ago, I called them. They came out, and they said it wasn’t broken,” Aguda said.
He expressed his frustration and called for a permanent solution to the ongoing problems.
“If they can do something about the heavy rain where the water is backing into my house,” he explained.
“Give me relief rather than have it poured into my house when it rains and gets backed up and also repair what has actually been damaged already over the last three years,” Aguda finished.
