A Washington Parish family is shattered after losing their 4-year-old daughter, Aubri Williams.
Richard and Jessica Williams say their daughter died the morning of September 4. The Friday morning seemed to be going normally. Richard began making pancakes with Aubri’s twin not too far behind him. Jessica went to wake Aubri from her sleep to join, but she would not respond.
“I was talking to her the whole time.” Jessica said, “I was like, ‘Toots, daddy’s making pancakes;’ they love pancakes.”
Jessica knelt beside Aubri and as she went to turn her over, she noticed she was cold, and her lips were blue.
“I start shaking her because I thought if I shook her hard enough, she was going to take a deep breath,” Jessica said.
In a panic, Jessica screamed. Her husband tried to do CPR and called 911, but instead of waiting, they scooped up Leah and Aubri and ran to the car to meet the EMTs.
“I had to hold her little lifeless body in my arms,” Jessica said.
The Washington Parish Coroner ruled out foul play, and they said the cause of death is still pending the results of the autopsy report.
“She was happy the night before jumping on the bed playing; she got some new toys she was excited about,” Richard said.
The couple tells WDSU they saw on the baby monitor that Aubri woke up around 5 a.m. She sat up to remove her puppy from her bed. She then went back to sleep; just before 11 a.m. is when her parents found her.
They remember Aubri for her energy, her spunky attitude, and her kindness.
“She had a song for everything; she was always singing or playing guitar,” Jessica said.
They also say she was her twin sister Leah’s best friend.
“Leah said she had a nightmare the day Aubrey left. I think it’s that twin connection.” Richard said.
Now the couple is desperate for answers. Over the past year and a half, the couple believed Aubri had health issues.
According to her parents, at just 3-and-a-half-years-old, Aubri began gaining weight at a rapid pace. They said she gained 40 lbs within a year’s time.
“She was eating the same portions as her sister and still gaining weight,” Jessica said.
“We took chips from her started giving her anything with low calories, but she was still gaining weight,” Richard said.
The parents claim her speech and potty training regressed; she had mood changes, anxiety and panic attacks. After going to the doctor and getting blood work done, her initial panels didn’t raise any red flags, but the couple pushed for Aubri to have her brain scanned in fear of a neurological disorder. However, they said Doctors wanted Aubri to have behavioral therapy first, which required an evaluation. The waitlist for that evaluation was 12-18 months.
“We put her on the waitlist 6 months ago; Aubri didn’t make it that long,” Richard said
As the couple continues to push for answers, they continue to remember Aubri as the joy of their home and a light that lit up their entire lives.
