It was a storied quarterback battle all offseason that resulted in Zeon Chriss-Gremillion beating out Kadin Semonza, but after an anemic performance in week one that just featured just 3 points, 10 first downs and 54 rushing yards, the Green Wave are making a change at quarterback.
“We are going to start Semonza and if he plays well, he’ll stay in the game,” Tulane head coach Will Hall said.
“It means the world to be the guy for a program. I’ve been chasing this for a long time so it’s a blessing for sure,” quarterback Kadin Semonza said.
The opportunity means maybe just a little bit more to Semonza who was passed over twice at Tulane for the starting job.
“Everybody my whole life, my whole career, has told me I was never good enough to play, you know, quarterback. That dates back to high school, and then I go to Ball State under recruited, people said I wasn’t going to play there and won MAC Freshman of the Year over there. I was blessed to be able to do that and then came here and obviously I haven’t played in a year and a half since coming here so I’m always going to prepare like I’m the starter because I know in my heart that’s what I am. I’m a starting quarterback in college football,” Semonza said.
Semonza played the entire second half for the Green Wave in their season opener against Duke. He went 11/21 for 140 yards.
Tulane welcomes South Alabama to Yulman Stadium Saturday at 6:00.
