The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly HAZMAT incident that happened Friday in Empire, Louisiana.
According to the sheriff’s office, two people died in what the agency describes as an isolated hazardous material incident at Daybrook Fisheries.
The sheriff’s office, the Plaquemines Parish Fire Department, and a HAZMAT unit are on scene, and the investigation is active.
Westbank Fishing issued a statement on the the Daybrook Fisheries HAZMAT incident:
“Two Westbank Fishing employees died early this morning during unloading operations at the company’s Empire facility. Their families have been notified, and the company’s thoughts are with them. Names are not being released at this time out of respect for the families.
The site is secure and there is no ongoing risk to employees or the surrounding community. The incident is under investigation, and Westbank Fishing is cooperating fully with law enforcement and regulatory authorities. The company will have no further comment while that investigation is active.”
According to the sheriff, there is no danger to the public due to this incident.
