Security footage from a strip mall near the intersection of Crowder and Lake Forest boulevards in New Orleans captured a deadly shooting Wednesday. One man is dead, and police are still searching for the suspect.
The video shows two cars parked in the lot for about 10 minutes before one person enters the passenger side of a silver car. Another person then shoots at the silver car, gets into a black car, and drives away. The car that was shot at crashed into a small electrical utility building next to a furniture store across the street.
New Orleans Police say first responders found the driver of the silver car dead at the scene.
“Most of the times, especially recently in most of 2026 incidents, shootings are not random,” Matthew Stone, director of communication and development for the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation, said. “The first thing that comes to mind is some sort of transaction gone bad, whether drugs or other, whatever it is. I mean, it could be anything from like a Facebook purchase that just went south.”
Police have not said what the motive could be for the killing. Investigators said the passenger in the car that crashed ran away, but was found later. Investigators said that person is not a suspect.
“Someone that has pulled the trigger on another human being is much more likely to do it again, especially if they’ve gotten away with it,” Stone said. He told WDSU he is confident in the New Orleans Police Department’s ability to find the suspect.
“They’re operating at a 98% clearance rate right now, which is nation-leading, maybe internationally,” Stone said. “It just really is incredible how much work they do in such a short time span … Tips from the public really do set investigators down the right track very quickly.”
Police said they will release the name of the man killed after notifying his family and conducting an autopsy. Investigators ask anyone with information about the shooting to call homicide detectives at (504) 658-5300 or write in a tip online.
