A boil water advisory has been issued for customers from Port Sulphur through Venice after a water main break near Camellia Drive caused a loss of pressure overnight.
The advisory applies to all customers served by the Port Sulphur Water Treatment Plant. Although water pressure remains available from Empire through Venice, those communities are included because they receive water from the Port Sulphur plant.
Customers should boil water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing their teeth or using it for other consumption-related purposes. Commercially bottled water may be used as an alternative.
The advisory will remain in effect until repairs are completed and water quality testing confirms the water is safe. Officials said additional updates will be provided and the public will be notified when the advisory is lifted.
