The French Quarter came alive Saturday with the annual red dress run at Crescent Park in the morning and the 23rd Dirty Linen Night on Royal Street in the evening, all in support of a good cause.
From the 200 block of Royal down to the 1100 block, Dirty Linen Night brought together tourists and locals, with over 50 galleries participating to showcase their art.
“It’s not just come to our street and buy our stuff. We want you to do that. But you’re also supporting a really, really good cause,” said Ryan Tramonte, general manager of French Art Network.
For $20, attendees could purchase wristbands, with proceeds benefiting the Please Foundation, which helps local high school students fund tuition.
For Elisa Perriott, she knows firsthand how that money can make a difference.
“The Please Foundation helped my family when my father had cancer,” said Perriott, a Please Foundation alumnus. “My dad had a rare eye cancer. And Please stepped in and allowed me to go to Dominican, allowed my sister to finish at St. Stephen’s, and now is allowing my baby sister to go to Cabrini.”
Raffle tickets were also available for $10, with prizes including valuable works of art donated by the galleries.
Matthew Peck, artist and gallery owner at Matthew Peck Gallery, helped start Dirty Linen Night, and shared what makes it so special.
“Art culture is part of Louisiana history,” Peck said. “I’m so happy to meet everyone that comes by. And I’m so thankful to this community for collecting art and for being a part of the process.”
This year also included shops on Chartres Street, adding to the festivities in the French Quarter.
