Qualifying for the Nov. 3 election has concluded, and some races have been finalized.
Several judicial races in Orleans and Jefferson parishes, with some judges re-elected unopposed and others entering contested races.
Numerous judges in both parishes were re-elected without opposition.
In Orleans Parish, the judicial races are particularly notable after the state legislature eliminated three seats to bring the parish more in line with others of similar size.
Longtime judges Ben Willard and Robin Pittman will return to the bench unopposed.
Judge Simone Levine, whose seat was eliminated, has qualified to run against her colleague judge Kimya Holmes.
In an unusual move, Judge Leon Roche has qualified to run against longtime incumbent Judge Camille Buras instead of seeking re-election for his current seat.
While Roche’s seat was spared from elimination, Judge Rhonda Goode-Douglas, whose seat was eliminated, has qualified to run in Section I, Roche’s current seat.
The races featuring Levine vs Holmes and Roche vs Buras are expected to be significant political topics leading up to the November election.
Additionally, several civil court judges in Orleans Parish were re-elected without opposition.
Orleans Parish remains the only parish in Louisiana with separate civil and criminal courts.
