The 2026 property tax roll is open for review in St. Tammany Parish and leaders want you to go online and double-check information about your property.
Tax assessor Louis Fitzmorris says now is the time for all homeowners to go online and make sure you have your homestead exemption if the property is your primary residence.
Also check to see if you qualify for any of the other exemptions that could potentially save you money.
For example, seniors 65 and older with a certain level of income can qualify for a senior freeze on the value of your home.
“So, what that means is in the next reassessment coming up in 2028 when generally speaking values go up, yours would stay the same. That doesn’t mean your taxes are frozen. It means your value is frozen if you qualify,” Fitzmorris said.
There’s also a discount for qualified first responders and eligible veterans.
Veterans with 100 percent disability may be fully exempt from ad valorem taxes.
Veterans with 50%-60% disability are entitled to an additional $25,000 Special Exemption above the $75,000 Homestead Exemption.
Veterans with 70%-99% disability are entitled to an additional $45,000 Special Exemption above $75,000 Homestead Exemption.
