A Lakeview family is raising concerns about a growing sinkhole in the service alley behind their home, which they first noticed at the end of May on garbage pickup day.
“It’s definitely no pothole. It looks ‘sinkhole-ish’ to me,” Karlin O’Neill, a homeowner, said.
The sinkhole, estimated to be nearly eight feet deep, has disrupted services, deliveries, and raised safety concerns for the O’Neill family, particularly for their elderly mother who lives with them.
“I’m worried about it because we have a situation where we may need to call 911 for my elderly mother who lives with us, and right now we are blocked by a construction vehicle. If an ambulance comes, it would be a lot of time wasted that she may need the hospital, and it concerns me that we may not be able to get out,” Karlin O’Neill said.
John O’Neill, another homeowner, described the sinkhole as unique due to its depth and the inability to drive around it.
“This one’s just unique in the sense of deep, and you certainly can’t drive around it,” he said.
He also noted the delay in addressing the issue.
“It took them about a week to put the barrels. We were using the garbage cans to block it off,” John O’Neill said.
The O’Neill’s are urging authorities to take action before the problem worsens.
“Please at least see for yourself and see that it is getting larger and the concerns are getting greater,” Karlin O’Neill said.
