Experts have a financial warning for those blowing their AC this summer.
The cost to repair your HVAC system is now costing families more than ever. Experts say tariffs and limited supply are playing a role in higher HVAC repairs and replacements.
According to Compass Inspection Services, a recent change in law is phasing our refrigerant, making it hard for AC companies to keep up with supply. The inspection company reports, a few years ago refrigerant cost $12 to $15 a pound and now companies are paying around $500.
For some AC companies, replacing refrigerant is no longer an option, leaving homeowners with the only option to replace their cooling system, which can cost thousands of dollars.
Experts urge you to take the following steps to prevent a blowout:
- Replace air conditioner filters every 1-3 months
- Clean debris and coils on outdoor and indoor units before peak summer months
- Schedule cleaning services in advance
