Water is creeping close to homes in Venetian Isles, where residents and crews are monitoring conditions as rainfall is expected to increase.
On the way to Venetian Isles, roads were dry, and crews were seen near the floodgate by Chef Menteur Highway, next to the marine supply store.
Crews said they spent all of yesterday preparing to close the floodgates, but this morning, they received orders to revert their preparations and will not be closing the floodgate at this time.
Light drizzles were already being felt in the area, with heavier rainfall expected closer to the coasts. Any amount of rainfall, however, could contribute to more flooding in the region.
Residents in Venetian Isles say they are accustomed to these conditions and know how to navigate them due to the area being outside the levee protection system.
