Defense attorneys for convicted New Orleans lawyers Vanessa Motta and Jason Giles say federal prosecutors failed to turn over all documents before trial.
According to court filings, some potential evidence was not provided until July, months after Motta, Giles and their law firms were convicted in March.
A federal jury found them guilty of roles in a wide-ranging scheme involving staged crashes and false insurance claims tied to millions of dollars.
Prosecutors argue the newly disclosed material would not have changed the outcome of the trial.
A judge has now set a hearing for Aug. 11 to address the dispute.
That hearing comes just days after another closely watched trial is scheduled to begin. Sean Alfortish, Motta’s fiancé, and Leon Parker are accused of playing a role in the killing of federal witness Cornelius Garrison and are set to stand trial in August.
