A Shreveport man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his mother.
Nakee Collins, 21, of Shreveport, is being charged with second-degree murder following a shooting that happened Wednesday morning in Metairie.
Police say Collins shot his 48-year-old mother multiple times. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Deputies say they responded to reports of a shooting around 8:30 a.m. in the 6200 block of Riverside Dr. and found the victim on the ground in a residential parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Minutes after the shooting, Collins was involved in a crash with another car on Power Boulevard near the I-10 exit ramp.
After it was determined to be connected to the shooting, Collins was taken into custody.
He is being charged with second-degree murder.
This is an ongoing investigation.
Detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are working to determine a clear motive.
