If the Senate passes the Sunshine Protection Act, it will then advance to President Donald Trump’s desk for final approval to sign the act into law to make daylight saving time permanent across the nation.
WHAT IS DAYLIGHT SAVING?
Daylight saving time is the practice of setting the clocks forward by 1 hour in the spring to make better use of the daylight hours.
It runs from March-November.
WHAT DOES MAKING DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME PERMANENT LOOK LIKE FOR NEW ORLEANS?
We would notice the time difference more in the winter season, particularly in December and January.
On the current standard time system, the latest sunrise occurs at 7:00am and the earliest sunset occurs at 5:00pm.
If daylight saving time becomes permanent, we would notice an hour later difference with the latest sunrise at 8:00am and the earliest sunset at 6:00pm.
To summarize, we would get an hour later sunrise, the morning commutes will be darker, but more daylight in the evenings.
