A longtime Jefferson Parish resident is marking a major milestone, celebrating 104 years of life shaped by faith, family and perseverance.
Ollie Johnson marked that milestone July 15, when the City of Kenner presented her with a Certificate of Recognition. District 1 Councilwoman Dee Dunn delivered the honor, recognizing Johnson’s contributions to her family and community.
Johnson’s story began July 15, 1922, in Woodville, Mississippi, where she was born to St. Clair and Meggie Johnson. She grew up on a farm as one of 16 children, learning early the values that would guide her life.
Those who know Johnson describe her as adventurous and determined, traits that carried her through decades of change and growth.
She later married Edward Johnson Sr., and together they built a life in the Shrewsbury area of Metairie, raising four children: Almeta, Walter, Edward Jr. and Charles. Johnson later moved to Metairie’s Bunch Village community.
Throughout her life, Johnson found joy in caring for animals, sharing stories and spending time with family. She also enjoys playing bingo, card games and solving crossword puzzles.
Kenner city leaders praised Johnson for her resilience, wisdom and lifelong devotion to her family, describing a legacy that continues to inspire future generations.
