There’s a new top cop in Covington as Kevin Collins was sworn in. He took an oath to serve after he was nominated by Mayor Mark Johnson and unanimously approved by the City Council. Collins succeeds retiring Chief Michael Ferrell.
Collins is a longtime member of the police department. He has risen through the ranks, serving as Detective, Sergeant and Lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations Division, Director of Training and Internal Affairs Investigator, and most recently Deputy Chief. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Master’s degree in Public Safety from the University of Virginia. He is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, Session 289.
He is a husband, father of five and a New Orleans native.
