The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for portions of northwestern Lafourche and north-central Terrebonne parishes as severe thunderstorms drop heavy rain across southeastern Louisiana.
The advisory remains in effect until 4:30 p.m. CDT Friday.
Forecasters warned that excessive rainfall is expected to cause minor flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas, with water likely pooling over some roadways.
At 2:00 p.m. CDT, radar tracking showed intense thunderstorms moving through the region. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain had already fallen, with an additional 1 to 2 inches anticipated before the storms clear out.
Key locations expected to experience minor flooding include Houma, Thibodaux, Gray, Schriever, Bayou Cane, and Chackbay.
Weather officials urge motorists to exercise caution, avoid driving through water-covered roads, and check the National Weather Service website for ongoing flood safety updates.
