The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding residents to be safe with fireworks this Fourth of July weekend.
It encourages families to choose public fireworks displays, but also advises families to be mindful when popping their own fireworks.
Here is a parish-by-parish list of where you can and cannot pop fireworks in Southeast Louisiana:
ORLEANS PARISH:
Fireworks are not permitted in Orleans Parish.
However, a public fireworks display for Go 4th on the River will be held on July 4 at 9 p.m.
JEFFERSON PARISH:
The private use of fireworks in unincorporated areas of Jefferson Parish is illegal.
ST. CHARLES PARISH:
Legal times to shoot fireworks in St. Charles Parish:
- From Dec. 31 at 9 a.m. until Jan. 1 at 1 a.m.
- Jan. 1 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
ST. TAMMANY PARISH:
Fireworks are allowed inside the unincorporated areas of the parish.
The city of Covington allows the personal use of fireworks.
However, it is illegal to discharge fireworks inside the city limits of Slidell, Mandeville, Abita Springs, Madisonville, Pearl River and Folsom.
If caught, residents could receive a $500 fine and serve up to six months in jail.
TANGIPAHOA PARISH:
Fireworks are legal in the parish, but each city has its own regulations, so residents should double-check with their city government.
Fireworks are not allowed within 1,000 feet of any church, school, hospital or public building.
TERREBONNE PARISH:
Fireworks can only be used between dusk and 10 p.m. on July 4 and only outside of the city limits.
Fireworks are not allowed within the city limits of Houma.
LAFOURCHE PARISH:
Fireworks can legally be discharged on July 4 from 9 a.m. to midnight.
Fireworks are illegal in Thibodaux and Golden Meadow, except in Golden Meadow’s Oak Ridge Park.
ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST:
Fireworks can be discharged on the Fourth of July from dusk until 10 p.m.
Fireworks should not be discharged closer than 500 feet from any hospital, church, nursing home or school that is occupied.
Anyone under the age of 15 is prohibited from discharging fireworks without the direct supervision of a parent, guardian or other responsible party.
ST. BERNARD PARISH:
Fireworks can be discharged from Thursday, June 25, through Saturday, July 4, from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m.
