The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tubing accident that happened on the Tchefuncte River over the weekend.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 19-year-old woman’s hand became trapped in the handle of a tube as she fell into the water.
The incident caused her arm to break.
The sheriff’s office said her family wasn’t able to safely get her back into their boat and called for help.
Deputy Michael Gibase and Sgt. Chuck White along with the STPSO Marine Division responded and took her to the Fairview Riverside State Park Boat Launch.
The woman was then transported to the hospital for treatment.
According to the STPSO, the family reached out and thanked the deputies for their help with the following message:
“We needed a water rescue today for my daughter’s arm that ended up being broken, and every single officer and EMT was so incredible. We are so thankful for how caring they were. Please, if you could pass along our gratitude, we would so appreciate it.”
