St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has appointed an interim sheriff and Chief Deputy after Randy Smith announced his resignation on Wednesday.
Chief Deputy Bret Ibert has been appointed to interim sheriff and will serve in that role until a special election is held to fill the remainder of the term.
“The men and women of this sheriff’s office come to work every day dedicated to serving and protecting our community,” said Ibert. “While there has been a change in leadership, our commitment to public safety remains unchanged. My focus is on providing steady leadership, supporting our employees, and continuing the work of keeping St. Tammany Parish safe.”
St. Tammany Parish Deputy Chief Jeff Boehm resigned on Tuesday. George Cox has been promoted to chief deputy.
