High water from a rising river in St. Tammany Parish forced several evacuations and water rescues Wednesday in Folsom.
The rescues happened along Park Lane.
Officials in St. Tammany Parish say the Tchefuncte River has swelled rapidly, and is already overflowing and affecting homes and businesses across the area.
One woman had to evacuate her home due to rising waters. Crews in the area also placed signage warning drivers to avoid flooded roadways.
St. Tammany Parish Public Information Officer Michael Vinsanau
said flooding concerns extend beyond Folsom, as the parish is surrounded by waterways and has experienced significant rainfall, with more forecasted overnight.
“The river is still on the rise and is expected to crest at 26 feet tomorrow,”Vinsanau
said.
