Two windows have been broken on the eighth floor of the Hale Boggs Federal Building Friday afternoon. A man was seen throwing miscellaneous items out to the sidewalk, including chairs and a filing cabinet glass.
Brian Fair, a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service’s New Orleans branch, revealed new details in a live interview with WDSU anchor Aubry Killion. Click the full interview in the video above.
Friday night, the NOPD identified the suspect as Dwight Armbrus.
The Federal Building closed at 6 p.m., but the man remained inside. It took over an hour to remove him from the building.
Officers say Armbrus refused commands once they arrived and they deployed a Taser. He was seen by WDSU crews apparently sedated and taken out of the building on a stretcher.
The New Orleans Police Department says he has minor injuries and is at the hospital for evaluation before he is booked. He will face a charge of simple criminal damage to property.
Stay with WDSU for updates as the situation develops.
