A 24-year veteran of the Jefferson Parish Fire Department was killed Friday night in a boating accident near the Chef Pass Bridge, according to parish officials.
Officials identified the victim as Lt. Dennis Casey Jr.
Emergency medical services said crews responded to a call about a boating accident in the area around 8:30 p.m. and found a man dead at the scene.
Parish officials said Casey died in a personal watercraft accident.
WDSU anchor Aubry Killion spoke to Chief Charles Hudson in a live and emotional interview.
“Someone that loved to serve,” Hudson said.
