A moment of silence was held at the Louisiana House on Thursday after a deadly shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.
“We’re going to ask that you keep our city in prayer and ask the speaker for a moment of silence. We have been advised of a mass shooting at the Mall of Louisiana. We don’t know anything past that, don’t know if there are any fatalities just yet. We will keep you updated, but for right now we will need to join in hearts, minds, and souls for prayers for our city, our state, and certainly our nation,” said Rep. Vanessa Caston LaFleur.
In a news conference on Thursday, Chief TJ Morse confirmed the shooting.
Police say they believe this was a targeted incident between two groups who were arguing near the food court before shooting each other.
BRPD confirmed that 10 people were injured and transported to a local hospital.
One of those victims has died from their injuries.
The shooter is still at large.
Gov. Jeff Landry issued a statement on the shooting at the Mall of Louisiana:
“I am aware of the active shooter scene at the Mall of Louisiana. I am in coordination with law enforcement and we will update as we know more. Please avoid the area. Sharon and I are praying for those affected and are grateful for a quick response by our law enforcement officials.”
