According to the Louisiana Department of Health, a pediatric resident has tested positive after being exposed during international travel.
The patient was partially vaccinated.
Public exposures occurred on April 17 at the Kenner Target on 1401 W. Esplanade Ave. and the Kenner Walmart at 300 W. Esplanade Ave.
Anyone who was at these locations on this date may have been exposed to measles.
Anyone exposed to measles is recommended to call their health care provider and notify them that they have been exposed to someone with measles.
Initial measles symptoms include a high fever that may spike as high as 104 degrees, a cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes.
Two to three days after symptoms begin, tiny white spots (Koplik spots) may appear inside the mouth.
Three to five days after symptoms begin, a rash will break out. It usually appears as flat red spots on the face at the hairline and spreads downward to the neck, trunk, arms, legs and feet.
After a few days, the fever subsides and the rash fades.
