The gospel tent always has great uplifting performances. One group kicking things off at the tent is the Edna Karr Choir.
“We’re definitely excited to give the kids an opportunity to be able to not just go to jazz first, but to perform at Jazz Fest, which was the loudest festival in the world,” said Senais Edwards, the vocal music director at Edna Karr High.
Edwards says every lesson, every note, every pitch, and every song strikes a chord.
“Music helps mentally, helps with emotion, helps with different things that you’re going through. So being able to get the kids an opportunity to do music, and actually helps them to get to the next level,” said Edwards.
For these students, Jazz Fest will be a pitch-perfect experience that goes beyond the music sheet and into the real world.
“Teaching them about integrity, teaching them about character, responsibility, accountability. So it’s bigger than the music,” said Edwards.
