Major companies are now seeking repayment from a New Orleans attorney recently convicted in a wide-ranging staged wrecks scheme.
Jason Giles, a former principal at the King Firm, was convicted of wire fraud, mail fraud, and obstruction of justice after a three-week trial involving staged wrecks.
He was cuffed and taken to jail, where he will remain until his sentencing in July.
Court records show Giles is facing lawsuits from multiple creditors.
In March, American Express sued Giles, claiming he owes the credit card company over $35,000.
BMW has also filed a lawsuit against Giles, alleging he owes the company more than $137,000. According to court records, BMW has asked the court for permission to take possession of Giles’ vehicle, an M8 convertible.
This month, Renasant Bank filed a lawsuit against Giles, seeking more than $147,000 for an unpaid promissory note.
Giles is appealing his conviction and may soon have a new lawyer.
Federal court records show his trial attorney, Lynda Van Davis, has formally requested to withdraw as his legal counsel.
