Southeastern Louisiana University Lions left fielder Rhett Centanni and shortstop Connor Cuff collided during a game Tuesday evening at Tulane University while pursuing a pop fly off the bat of Green Wave leadoff hitter Tye Wood.
Centanni was carted off the field on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he spent time under medical observation.
SLU leaders say Centanni, who’s a graduate of Rummel High School and who also played at Delgado Community College is home now, resting and seems to be fine.”
Despite hitting three home runs Tuesday, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 8-4, against Tulane in non-conference action at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Tulane (20-18) struck for five runs in the first inning following a lengthy delay for an injured Southeastern (23-15) player.
Before the Lions could recover, Tulane took advantage of three hit batters and a pair of errors to build its early lead.
Southeastern cut into the deficit in the third on Alex Perry’s two-run home run to left field. His team-leading 11th of the season pulled the Lions within three, 5-2.
After the Green Wave picked up runs in the third and fourth, Justin Williams led off the fifth for SLU with his first of two home runs in the game.
Williams led off the seventh with his second homer, giving him nine this season, as the Lions pulled back within three runs, 7-4.
A leadoff walk in the seventh led to Tulane’s final run.
