The Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Parade is ready to roll.
New Orleans police say the parade starts at 1 p.m.
The New Orleans Police Department advises motorists to expect heavy pedestrian traffic and congestion in the following areas:
- Magazine Street from Race Street to Louisiana Avenue
- Louisiana Avenue between Magazine Street and St. Charles Avenue
- Jackson Avenue from St. Charles Avenue to the river
NOPD officers are actively enforcing No Parking / Tow-Away zones in these areas, and numerous vehicles parked in restricted areas are currently being towed.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area when possible, follow posted signage, and comply with directions from officers working the event.
Motorists whose vehicles are towed may retrieve them at the City of New Orleans Vehicle Pound, 400 N. Claiborne Ave.
As a reminder, motorists should avoid parking along the parade route and in posted staging and disbanding areas, where no-parking and tow-away zones will be strictly enforced.
The parade begins near Felicity and Magazine streets, traveling through the Irish Channel and Garden District before disbanding near Jackson Avenue and Annunciation Street. Motorists should expect road closures and traffic delays in the surrounding areas.
NOPD officers and traffic units will be deployed along the route to assist with traffic control and public safety. Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow posted signs and directions from officers working the event.
