A gushing geyser pushed floodwaters inside several Uptown homes.
Neighbors were shocked waking up to a massive water main break on Panola Street early Monday morning.
“Our house is a little bit of a warzone right now, trying to air out downstairs and figure everything out,” said Bree Brincat.
Brincat spent the day salvaging what she could from her basement, as many of her belongings were damaged and even ruined.
“So it’s like, what do you even do at that point? It just feels very overwhelming, you know. Then, of course, our street is closed off, and it’s back to being a mud pit, so it’s like, even when you try to go outside and walk your dog, it’s just a big disruption,” Brincat said.
Drone 6 video shows the construction zone, it’s just one block away from the site of a huge sinkhole on the same exact street last month.
The Sewerage and Water Board says a 48-inch water main break led to a widespread boil advisory that covers most of the East Bank, spanning from Uptown to even parts of New Orleans East.
“I just said, ‘Well, it’s just a normal day at Mandina’s because everything’s clean here,’” said Cindy Mandina.
Mandina said her popular Mid City restaurant learned from past boil advisories.
They spent thousands of dollars on a water filtration system; it helps them stay open during situations like this.
“I’m sure as the city ages and the pipes age, this will continue to happen, and I’m glad we invested in this, and it’s working,” Mandina said.
