An 18-year-old is in custody following a deadly shooting involving a 14-year-old girl.
Hammond police say Demontez Treyvon “Trey” Robinson was booked into the Hammond City Jail on one count of negligent homicide.
Police say they responded to a shots fired call just before midnight Tuesday and found the 14-year-old girl with a gunshot wound.
She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
During the investigation, officers say they observed a vehicle, driven by Robinson, traveling at a high rate of speed and pulled the vehicle over.
As the investigation progressed, police say Robinson was playing with a gun when it went off and hit the girl.
The investigation is ongoing.
