Three bullet holes could be seen through the front door of City Hall.
The officer is being treated at the hospital, and his injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Deputies say the suspect ran into a wooded area near the intersection of Highways 51 and 40 before stealing a car and driving north to the McMichael Church Road area in Amite.
Drones and K9s were used to take the suspect into custody.
